Biography
Kerry Mulholland is a writer rooted in Alberta's soil, with loyalties divided between prairie, desert, city and sea. • She has performed her poetry for audiences in teahouses, bookstores, jazz bars and under a tent in the rain at a music festival. Her work has been published in anthologies and periodicals and recorded on CDs. She was the winner of the Edmonton Journal's 2006 poetry contest, and was the winner of the 2007 CBC Radio Poetry Face-Off. • Kerry has been a guest of the Raving Poets Band at Edmonton's LitFest and has been a selected reader for Edmonton's Night of Artists, the Stroll of Poets 12 Days of Poetry and the South Country Fair. • Kerry is a member of The Wednesdays, a group of five women who, for over a decade, have been meeting weekly to write. At Edmonton's inaugural Poetry Festival in 2006, the Wednesdays performed to a sold-out audience. • Trained as a journalist, Kerry has worked as a writer for the provincial government, as a reporter for a small town newspaper, as a coordinator of women's writing workshops in Canada and New Mexico, as a bookbinder, as a typesetter, and as currently acting executive director of the Writers Guild of Alberta. Always, words are near. • Kerry lives in a wee house on the south side of the North Saskatchewan River in Edmonton, Alberta with her daughter, her husband (poet Michael Gravel) and too many pets.
